Cut
Nine pieces from one hide, chosen for grain and cut along the pattern. Anything with a flaw goes back.
3 hoursOne bag, cut and sewn by one pair of hands.
Nine pieces from a single hide, laid flat and checked by hand before a blade touches them.
Two needles, one waxed thread, and a pull on every stitch that no machine repeats.
Sanded, dyed and burnished until the edge is as smooth as the face.
The lock is fitted last and polished until it catches the light and nothing else.
Eighteen hours at the bench, then it is yours for the next thirty years.
Sixty-one steps, eighteen hours, one pair of hands. Nothing here is rushed, because the bag is made to outlast the season.
