Magnetic Iron Filings: an interactive 3D cursor template
Thousands of iron filings that snap to the magnetic field lines around the cursor and fixed poles.
Try it: Move the magnet · click to flip the pole. Open the live Magnetic Iron Filings full screen.
Where the Magnetic Iron Filings works best
Physics and education, science museums, energy and engineering brands.
How it is built
Thousands of instanced filings align to the summed magnetic field of fixed poles and the cursor pole; a click flips the cursor’s polarity. The whole effect is plain three.js in one module script. It renders only while it is on screen and caps the pixel ratio on high-density displays to protect performance.
Add it to your website
- Add a Code, Embed or Custom HTML block where the effect should sit (Webflow, Framer, WordPress, GoHighLevel, Shopify or plain HTML).
- Paste the snippet. It is one element and one script; three.js loads from a CDN.
- Edit the colours and words in the settings block, then publish.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Magnetic Iron Filings template free?
Anyone can open it live and try the interaction. Copying the code is included with a Scrollhaus plan.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. On touch screens it runs a gentle automatic motion so the scene is never still, and taps trigger the click interaction.
Do I need Spline or three.js experience?
No. It is one HTML element and one module script. Colours, text and images live in a settings block at the top.
