AI Website Template Licensing: Source, Media and Client Use

Before using a website template with an AI builder, check source rights, media permissions and the access period. Here is a practical checklist using Scrollhaus’s current licence.

Key takeaways

AI website template licensing should be checked before you paste source into a builder or deliver a client website. An AI tool is part of the workflow; it does not replace the resource’s licence. Establish what the purchase includes and what rights cover the final project.

Publisher disclosure: Scrollhaus publishes this guide. The Scrollhaus examples below explain our current Template Licence and Terms. For other vendors and third-party assets, read their own terms. This guide does not grant rights beyond the applicable licence.

Separate the five things you might receive

    ResourceQuestion to answer
Build promptMay you use and adapt the direction for commercial work? May you redistribute the prompt?
Source codeMay you modify the implementation, deploy it and deliver a completed project to a client?
Images and videoAre these included production assets, preview media, or third-party materials that need approval?
Fonts and packagesWhich licences and attribution notices apply to the dependencies?
Library accessHow long may you browse and download, and what happens after access expires?

Do not infer rights from a download button or a public preview. A template reference may send you to an external creator. A source file may include assets or packages governed by separate terms. Check the original resource rather than treating the library subscription as ownership of everything visible on screen.

What Scrollhaus permits for commercial and client work

During valid access, the Scrollhaus Template Licence permits you to copy, modify and use an included build resource for your own or a client website. You may change branding, combine it with other code, publish the customized result commercially and hand the completed client project to the client.

The client may use the completed website. That does not give them permission to extract the underlying resource and sell it as a template or distribute the premium library. Additional people who independently browse, download or reuse library resources need their own account or an agreed team licence.

What the purchase does not permit

You cannot resell or redistribute a Scrollhaus resource as a starter kit, prompt pack, template collection or competing library. You cannot share account credentials, make premium resources publicly downloadable, remove required third-party notices or claim exclusive ownership of an essentially unmodified resource.

A customized client website and a competing template product are different deliverables. If your intended product is a marketplace, resale collection or team-wide distribution of the source, contact the publisher before purchasing rather than assuming ordinary client-use permission covers it.

What happens when a subscription ends?

Under the Scrollhaus Template Licence, projects lawfully published during valid access may remain in use after your subscription ends. Your right to download new resources or begin new projects ends with access. Keep the project records that establish when you acquired and used the resource.

Two-month and Yearly plans renew until cancelled according to checkout terms. Lifetime is a one-time purchase for the commercial life of the Scrollhaus product and your account, subject to the Terms. It is not a guarantee that a service or individual resource will exist forever.

All three paid plans unlock the same premium collections. Compare the current plans by access period, and read the refund and cancellation policy before paying. These rights and billing details are separate from what an AI builder charges you.

Do the preview’s images and videos come with production rights?

Do not assume so. Scrollhaus preview assets may be used for prototyping, but production projects should host approved final assets under licences that cover their intended use. Images, films, fonts, trademarks and open-source packages can have their own restrictions.

Replace fictional logos, contact details and product claims with approved material. If an external creator supplies the template or media, check the creator’s terms. Record the asset’s source and licence with the project so a future maintainer knows what they may reuse.

Moving a file to your own CDN changes delivery, not its rights. Before launch, confirm that you may host the file publicly and use it for that business. Keep required notices with the appropriate source and preserve any applicable attribution.

    A practical handoff checklist

    1. Record the template entry, publisher, export format and acquisition date.
    2. Keep a copy of the licence and the purchase record.
    3. List the source dependencies, fonts, images, video and their separate permissions.
    4. Replace demo branding and simulated forms, payments or bookings.
    5. Keep the customized project in the client’s own hosting and source-management setup.
    6. Deliver the finished website with relevant notices, deployment instructions and an asset list.
    7. Explain which rights cover the finished project and which do not transfer library access.

The source-export checklist covers the technical side. A portable HTML file, a prompt-only reference and a full application project require different preparation even when their licences permit the same business use.

    Questions worth asking a publisher

Ask whether commercial use and client delivery are permitted; whether one account covers multiple independent users; which assets need replacement; whether already-published projects can remain online after cancellation; and whether the intended deliverable counts as redistribution.

For Scrollhaus questions, contact admin@scrollhaus.ai. Describe the project and the resource you want to use. The answer should come before you build a business around assumptions about a licence.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I use a Scrollhaus template for a client website?

During valid access, you may customize included resources for your own or client websites under the Template Licence. The completed client project may be delivered commercially, but the underlying library cannot be resold or redistributed as templates.

Can my published website stay online after my plan ends?

Projects lawfully published during valid Scrollhaus access may remain in use after the subscription ends. New downloads and new projects require active access, subject to the current Template Licence.

Does hosting preview media on my own CDN give me commercial rights?

No. Hosting changes how the file is delivered, not the licence. Production projects need approved final assets with permissions covering the intended use, and third-party notices and terms continue to apply.
