Orbiting Planets: an interactive 3D cursor template
A tiny solar system that tilts with the cursor; hovering a planet stops it to show its name.
Try it: Tilt the system · hover a planet · click for a comet. Open the live Orbiting Planets full screen.
Where the Orbiting Planets works best
Space, education and science products, kids’ learning apps and any “our ecosystem” story.
How it is built
Planets orbit a glowing sun with a point light and an additive glow sprite; the raycaster pauses the hovered planet, and a click launches a comet pulled by the sun’s gravity. The whole effect is plain three.js in one module script. It renders only while it is on screen and caps the pixel ratio on high-density displays to protect performance.
Add it to your website
- Add a Code, Embed or Custom HTML block where the effect should sit (Webflow, Framer, WordPress, GoHighLevel, Shopify or plain HTML).
- Paste the snippet. It is one element and one script; three.js loads from a CDN.
- Edit the colours and words in the settings block, then publish.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Orbiting Planets template free?
Anyone can open it live and try the interaction. Copying the code is included with a Scrollhaus plan.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. On touch screens it runs a gentle automatic motion so the scene is never still, and taps trigger the click interaction.
Do I need Spline or three.js experience?
No. It is one HTML element and one module script. Colours, text and images live in a settings block at the top.
