v0 Animated Website Templates: How to Add Real Scroll Animation to a v0 Site
v0 by Vercel generates React and Next.js interfaces quickly. For scroll-driven film, 3D or parallax, give it a working animated template to adapt instead of asking for the motion in words.
Written by AmJ, founder of Scrollhaus, and edited by the Scrollhaus editorial team. Sources and methodology are documented in the article.

Short answer: v0 is excellent at layout, components and clean React code, and limited at inventing complex motion from a sentence. To get a v0 site with real scroll animation, start with an animated template that already works, paste its source into v0 and ask for a conversion that keeps the animation code in one piece.
What v0 does well, and where it needs help
v0 is Vercel's AI tool for generating interfaces. It produces React and Next.js code styled with Tailwind, previews it in the browser and deploys to Vercel. Ask it for a pricing section or a dashboard and the result is usually usable on the first try.
Scroll-driven animation is different. A film that scrubs with the scroll wheel, a camera moving through a 3D scene or a pinned section with several timed steps depends on exact numbers: runway height, frame count, easing. A prompt cannot describe those, so the output tends to be a fade-in. A working template supplies the numbers.
Step by step: an animated template in v0
- Choose the motion from a live preview. Browse the Scrollhaus collection and scroll the previews. Free builds such as Orven, Axiom R9 and Tephra are good for a first test.
- Copy the source. Each portable template is one HTML document with its styles and script, and media on a hosted address. A few, such as the free Morphos, are already React projects and can be pasted file by file.
- Paste it into a new v0 chat with a conversion prompt (below).
- Test the preview before changing anything. Scroll top to bottom. If the hero is blank or the page does not scroll, fix that first.
- Then change the content in separate, small requests: copy, colours, fonts, media.
- Deploy and test the live link on a phone and a desktop.
The conversion prompt
Below is a complete, working animated website as one HTML file.
Convert it to a Next.js page for this project with these rules:
1. Put the whole page in ONE client component ("use client").
2. Keep the markup, ids and class names exactly as they are.
3. Keep the CSS as it is, in a global stylesheet or a style tag.
Do not translate it to Tailwind.
4. Run the original script once inside useEffect after mount.
Do not rewrite it, split it into hooks or change any numbers.
5. Load external libraries with next/script or a normal import,
in the same order as the original.
6. Do not add an iframe.

Follow-up prompts
Replace all visible copy with the text below. Do not change
structure, ids, classes or the script.
Change only the colour variables on :root to this palette: ...
Why not just ask v0 to "make it animated"?
You can, and for small touches it works: a hover lift, a staggered fade, a marquee. The gap shows on the hero. Compare a prompt-only hero with one adapted from Kotora or Grim & Tonic and the difference is the part visitors remember. Use v0 for what it is best at, the sections, forms and structure around that hero.
Common problems
- "window is not defined". The script ran on the server. It must run inside
useEffectin a client component. - The animation runs twice or stutters in preview. React's development mode mounts effects twice. Ask v0 to add a cleanup function that cancels the animation loop and removes listeners.
- Styles look different. v0 converted the CSS to utility classes. Ask it to restore the original stylesheet unchanged.
- Media does not load after deploy. Use the hosted media addresses from the template, or move your own files into the project's
publicfolder.
v0, Lovable, Bolt or Cursor?
All four can host the same template. v0 suits teams already on Next.js and Vercel. Lovable and Bolt are quicker for a standalone marketing site. Cursor gives the most control because you review each edit. The principle is the same everywhere: start from working motion and edit it.
Summary
Let v0 build the structure and let a tested template supply the animation. Paste the source, convert it to one client component without rewriting the script, test the scroll, then change the content in small steps.
Frequently asked questions
Can v0 make animated websites?
v0 can add hover states, fades and simple entrance animation from a prompt. Rich scroll-driven animation, such as a film that plays as you scroll or a 3D scene, is more reliable when you paste a working template and ask v0 to adapt it.
Does v0 have animated templates?
v0 has community templates, mostly app and dashboard layouts. For animated landing pages with scroll motion, bring your own source code from a library such as Scrollhaus and paste it into a v0 chat.
How do I use an HTML template in v0?
Paste the full HTML into the chat and ask v0 to convert it to a single client component in a Next.js page, keeping the script logic and element ids unchanged. Then test the scroll in the preview before making content changes.
Will the animation still work after deploying to Vercel?
Yes, as long as the media files load from a public address and the script runs on the client. Test the deployed link on a phone as well as a desktop.
